Drinking more water isn't the same as being hydrated
Oct 12, 2026 | Notes
You are doing everything you were told. Two litres a day. A bottle on the desk. And you are still thirsty, still headachy at three in the afternoon, still up twice in the night.
So here is the reframe: water on its own is not hydration.
Water is the delivery van. Minerals are the cargo.
Sodium, potassium and magnesium are what pull water out of your gut and into the cells where it is actually needed. Without them, a great deal of what you drink takes the scenic route and leaves again - Which is why you can drink all day and still feel dry.
Signs the Dekivery van is empty:
1. You are thirsty again ten minutes after drinking.
1. You are in the bathroom constantly, and your pee is clear every time.
1. You get a headache or a flat, foggy patch in the afternoon.
1. Your calves cramp at night.
What tends to work better?
Remineralilsing your water, all of it, throughout the day. There are a lot of mineral supplements available, or learn to make Solé Water (just ask, I will teach you :))
Potassium from food — avocado, banana, sweet potato, leafy greens, coconut water.
Magnesium, any and all ways - epsom salt bath or foot bath, tissue salt #8, magnesium supplements, magnesium spray or creams
Drink to thirst, not to tiktok recs, preferably NOT with meals (especially if you suffer indigestion or heartburn)
Remember that drinking in the evening = pee in the early hours, so for the sake of good sleep, an early evening cut-off is essential.
Coffee and tea are not the villains they are made out to be — but they are alsoalso not doing any delivering!
Your One Small Step take-away
If you have been drinking more and feeling no different, stop adding water and start adding minerals.
Same vehicle. Better cargo
Take one Small Step: start the day with a glass of remineralised water. Then go put the kettle on
